And you know that Leupold makes some pretty nice rifle scopes. But, what about their spotting scopes? The way you zoom in and out is by switching eyepieces. So, a spotting scope is different because it has a built-in zoom dial. With a spotting scope, though, that correction is important for a natural sight picture. The final difference is fairly obvious, telescopes are bigger. A spotting scope is compact by design, because it may need to be taken out into the field, but it can also sit on a tripod or other mounting surface.
You may need to move it to your preferred viewing location, or you may need to move it around to look at different sections of the sky.Dagostino fabrizio

They both have the magnification that I am looking for, from what I have seen they are the same price, and when I couldn't tell a difference between them when I looked through them side by side. Any advice would be appreciated. Mthuntr Well-known member. Probably can't go wrong with either.User Name Remember Me? Vortex vs Leupold Vs Nikon?
I'm curious about the Vortex scopes for hunting, particularly the Diamondback 3. I've been around a while, and have Leupolds that I've owned for 20 years or so, as well as new ones. I have phased out my Burris's, they seem clear but darker in low light. I'm a fan of 50mm scopes for hunting those first and last minutes of legal shooting light, and the ability to tell not only that it's a deer but WHAT KIND of deer nice buck, small buck, doe has my full attention.
The Zeiss Terra X seems like a pretty darned good scope, but doesn't have me wanting to replace my Leupolds with them. I could go either way, with a slight nod to Leupold on that scope. My one Nikon Monarch is on a rifle I don't use very much, and I honestly haven't even used it enough for a fair comparison.
Most of the younger guys around who watch all the hunting shows seem in love with the Vortex scopes, as do a number of Marines who live in the area and I bump into at the shooting range. The low price and apparently clear optics has me wanting to try one on for size, and worse come to worse I can always stick it on a 22 or muzzle loader.
What do you think? Vortex, Leupold, Nikon? PS-to keep the conversation somewhat even, each company has different 'tiers' or quality, and each has a cheap, mid price, and top of the line model. Originally Posted by Mommicked. CCAgunsMommickedPurist and 1 others like this.
That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. I don't have any qualms with TN's assesment, merely an anecdotal story. I have a pair of coyote hunting buddies with Diamondback scopes. I honestly can't tell you which models they are, but did shoot one of them the other day.
I don't personally care for the clarity, but they are quite bright looking. Best wishes whichever way you go! Mommicked likes this. Remove Advertisements. Another vote here for Tnhunters assessment on the scopes you asked about. NRA Endowment Member. Tnhunter's write-up is excellent.
The only nit I would pick is I haven't found my Burris scopes to be any less or more bright in low light than other similarly-priced scopes. I may have to re-check that, but as much head-to-head testing as I've done, I think I would have put an asterisk beside Burris by now if I'd noticed it. In all honesty, I'm starting to think my eyes don't make subtle distinctions other folks may notice. Vortex vs Leupold Scopes
Hey guys - My dad managed to bust his scope coming out of the stand yesterday morning luckily last weekend of season. We went to a couple of local shops and they seemed to really be pushing the diamondbacks over the base model Leupold in his price range. Just wanted to see if anyone has experience with these? Thanks in advance for any advice! Joined Dec 21, Messages Location Washington. If that is the price range for him, both will work just fine. It's just a matter of looking at the glass, difference in reticle and other compared preference.
Either one will do the job. You will get all kinds of stories about why you should spend or more on a scope for many reasons of which "most are true" but in the end I have never seen an animal care about what scope was mounted on the rifle when the bullet dropped em. At a point you get what you pay for but there is a fine line between going big just to say you have the best and just getting the job done.
